 ACCOMMODATIONS

It’s all about you…

The mission of La Quintana de Costa Rica is to offer the traveler a high level of friendly and personal service in a very private, peaceful, casually elegant atmosphere. Kevin Kichinka, the owner of La Q and your host, will direct his staff to help you in every way.

Coordinating with you before your arrival, we will provide you with the types of activities, food and beverage you enjoy.

Sleeping in? Breakfast is served on your schedule. We seek out the best and freshest ingredients in local markets, taking care in their preparation and presentation so as to please discriminating palates. In the evening, a couple may choose a colorful, local restaurant or “stay at home” and enjoy an unforgettably romantic, candle light dinner in our Moorish-themed dining room. Celebrating a special occasion? A classical guitarist is on call.

La Q is naturally a quiet and beautiful place, and you may pass a surprisingly large amount of time just walking about the grounds. The incredible variety of bird song will provide an idyllic soundtrack for your stroll.   At dawn and dusk, look for the resident Blue-Crowned Motmots with their signature tail racquets.

ACCOMMODATIONS

La Q caters to traveling couples, twosomes or foursomes, sharing adventure.

La Quintana is about honeymoons and for those re-living romantic moments.

Ours is also a destination for the single traveler who wants to disconnect and enjoy Costa Rica’s beauty in a special place and still enjoy quick access to the International airport.

There are only two guest rooms. They are connected by a hallway and are located in a separate wing of the estate. Each room has a king-size bed and a well-appointed restroom with European on-demand hot water shower. We enjoy the world’s most perfect climate so you’ll probably never turn on the ceiling fan.

Windows and doors open to the interior courtyard gardens, the guest lanai, and the estate gardens. The guest lanai is screened, although biting insects are generally absent.

On the estate grounds to the north, the “Carpentaria” has an indoor, lighted basketball court that doubles as an exercise area. Overlooking the valley, the newly renovated swimming pool has an average temperature of 80°F/27°C. (Please use these facilities between 7AM and 9PM.)

Night owls are provided with a remote gate opener ($75 credit card deposit required) for all-hours access through the front gateway and your accommodations.

INCLUDED SERVICES

Breakfast begins with a fabulous fruit plate, tea or coffee. Then choose eggs prepared as you like, thick-sliced cinnamon-nutmeg French toast or blueberry pancakes (all served with bacon or ham) or Southern-style biscuits and sausage gravy.  Local pastries, buttered toast and fruit preserves or bagels with cream cheese (and Chilean smoked salmon if you wish) complete the menu. Your preferences will be noted before check-in.

Local phone calls are free. Latin American Direct TV satellite service is available in the sala (living room) with American Major League Baseball and NFL Football available seasonally. If you are returning to La Q for your last night in Costa Rica before your departure, you may store your excess luggage here behind double-locked doors.

SERVICES AVAILABLE FOR A FEE

- Long distance phone calls.

- Laundry service.

- Massage in your room, adjacent to the gardens or poolside.

- A selection of cocktails, beer, wine, soda and juice are available at popular prices.

- Dinner can be scheduled for $25 per person (sales tax and service charge included, alcoholic beverages extra) with couple’s sharing a meal themed “by country” (includes soup or salad, entrée and desert). We cook tasty and innovative American food but specialize in preparing Thai, Chinese, Mexican and Italian cuisine. Specialty sandwiches or soup and salad are available for $10-15.

- Some of the world’s best coffee is being grown on the hillsides around the estate. We buy direct from a neighbor who is a boutique, appellation-quality grower of coffee, selling 50,000 sacks to Starbucks every year. Order in advance to have it fresh roasted to your liking (light, dark or espresso, whole bean or ground).

Please note that La Q is surrounded by nature and not within walking distance of restaurants or shopping. Airport pick-up and drop-off will be arranged for those not self-driving. There is daylight bi-hourly bus service to Alajuela directly in front of the estate and 24-hour taxi transfers are easily arranged.
